SWDS Panel Discussion

Today, Lydia participated in a panel discussion at Smart Workspace Design Summit in Amsterdam. Trying to quickly touch the subject of workplace transformation and how architecture can adapt existing offices to new workplace needs was an overwhelming experience. We suggested investing in collaborations as drivers for innovation. Each and every project is a unique combination in terms of people and companies implicated and therefore leads to a unique and customized workplace environment transformation. There is no one solution that works for every workplace design problem. As John Blackwell stressed, each and every one of us is unique and different and the challenge of successfully combining various and special needs in working place is a multiparametric and complex issue. We focus on a design procedure that is human centered, based on deep analysis of people’s needs and given facts which actually act as the enabler for design. The outcome is always surprisingly unique and reflects the collaborations that generated it. We are engaged in the procedure and we are constantly seeking for new opportunities to collaborate with inspiring teams and co-create workplaces that facilitate work-lifetimes.

Designing for the ear

Visiting Plantronics office building and park in Hoofddorp Amsterdam has been the ultimate experience. The idea of designing for the ear first, that is prioritizing acoustic conditions, deals with basic workplace disruptions and guarantees less absenteeism, increase of productivity and both employee and customer satisfaction. Imagine the impact on productivity levels considering the loss of time which counts up to 23 minutes per employee per destruction. Designing and implementing acoustics is not a matter of luxury, it is a matter of necessity and actual surviving working lifetime. Listening to water whispering flow while working is relaxing and compensating. The open views to green areas and maximum natural lighting compose the perfect working environment. We all deserve it, working and living in working environments that prioritizes our wellbeing. Thank you Irene Vestjens for the tour and the sharing of revealing information.

Workplace design as a strategic tool for real estate development. Observing global mind-set shift to wellness.

Greek workspace reality is not supporting employees’ wellbeing or even serving the basic needs. On the contrary, somebody could easily prove that -in most cases- working space environments are completely inappropriate for the convenience of people spending their working lifetimes there.

We presented some key projects that are prime examples of real estate developments that offer added value to existing buildings via better performance metrics, space management optimization and mainly human-centered workspace design results that transform both building and employee performance, with fairly reasonable or even low construction cost.

We can identify a clear opportunity for real estate development with guaranteed Return On Investment in existing buildings for workplace transformation which is successfully implemented globally and can lead to success real estate stories in the Greek real estate market.
